The BBQ market is an important sector for meat product sales during the summer months - as more and more families choose to eat outdoors.

Estimated at £371million, the overall UK market for BBQ foods has seen a growth in both barbecue occasions and value of the BBQ foods market  (Source: Mintel 2008). The number of BBQ's that UK families hold has risen dramatically - from 37 million BBQ's in 2001 to 130 million in 2008

The increase in BBQ occasions in 2008 has been driven by a better weather but also an increase of use of barbecues during weekdays as well as social occasions during the weekend. Market value growth has been partly a result of premiumisation and increases in meat prices.

The new vogue for patio heaters has also helped - keeping the damp or chill at bay & making sitting outdoors more pleasant.
